  • RE : Owners of 1947 Studebaker M5

I have my fathers 1947 Studebaker M5 pickup, How can I find out who originally purchased the truck ? He had it since 1951 and I never asked him who he bought it from. I'm restoring it and under the paint on the doors it said Maytag Sales and Service but I can't make out the dealer name. Can any one help ? Thanks PapaJoe

The original production order, available from the Studebaker National Museum, will indicate the dealer location it was originally shipped to, but not the name of the first purchaser.

If you think it has always been in the same community, it might work out by checking the local newspaper advertisements from back in the day to see who the local Maytag dealer was. I have also found that high school year books might help as most local businesses advertised in the back. Both should be available in your local public library.
