  • Body / Glass: 1960 Lark FRONT WEIGHTS

    Hi everyone,
I am having trouble finding the two 40+ pound weights that are installed behind the front bumper to dampen vibrations the styles vary, so they must be 1960 convertible specific. I never noticed any vibration, maybe the radial tires corrected that problem anyhow I would still like to buy these weights, so if you have some sitting around lets talk.

    Is your car a convertible?
On my Corvairs, only the convertibles had these dampers.

Without the weights, it doesn't seem too bad driving the car. However, if you follow a convertible without the weights down the road at 40-60 MPH, you will see why they are needed.

Dunno about convertibles, but I once removed set of those weights from inside the rear fenders of a 1964 WAGONAIRE CHALLENGER.

My impression is that the front weights are only on convertibles.

Eric, is your car a convertible?

Also used on '63 - '66 sliding roof wagons. Not used on fixed roof wagons.

I've got a pair I pulled off of a 65 sliding roof wagon. I'm not sure about the weight. 40 lbs seems about right.

Is your car missing them, or do you not know where to find them on your car?

Anyone that plans on swapping these Weights around from one year to another, FORGET IT!

I think probably the ONLY Years that match are '64 to '66, each year has a different shape.

Each weight is not only retained by 2 bolts behind the front end panel but is also held by a bracket that extends down from the "front air panel" on the fender assembly where it is held also by 2 bolts.

I'm confused as to what these weights actually do? This seems to me to be some in house Studebaker CASO engineering. Anyone?

Something to do with balancing out a vibration or resonance at speed.[it's been a long time ago that I read all about these] Not just Studebaker,Corvairs used them, and I had a '67 Camaro convertible that had them on the front!
