  • Factory R3 Avantis

Recently I received an email saying none of the factory R3 Avantis except R5546, that's the gold one, still have their original R3 engines. I find that hard to believe. The white one shipped to Moline, R5642 and sold at auction by Dick Marty has a short enough history that it should still have the original engine. The last Avanti, R5643 has even a shorter history I understand.
People do seem to agreee that R5532, which I am told is in New York, is missing its original engine and that the engine is currently in a 1964 convertible.

Boy, that is hard to believe. I'd like to think that 5643 still has its original engine at less than 10K miles, though I can't verify that.

The last time that I saw 5643, it was completely unmolested and had 6K miles on it.

R 5089 has its original engine.
It is out of the car and the short block has been rebuilt by AUTO MACHINE in St.Charles IL.
the same company that did Ron Hall's engines.
This car has only 43.000 miles and had a Buick engine installed at one time.
Jim Pepper had the original block and graciously sold it to me.
