  • Steering: 1948 M5 pickup truck

I'm looking for a steering box for a 48 M5 pickup that I recently bought. I put Brand new tire's on...and the truck is all over the road...to the Point that it''s no fun to drive. I'm assuming this is the problem.

Don't assume, get underneath and check all tie rod ends for slack and looseness in the steering box, it can be adjusted. also worn spring eye bushings can cause this. Luck Doofus

Have you checked the wheel alignment?

This may sound so obvious that it's stupid, but.... Check that the air pressure is correct, and equal between all 4 tires. Check that the tires are correct for the truck, and not out-dated --- especially if they are old bias-ply tires.

Have someone turn the steering wheel back and forth while you watch things from underneath. If you don't see anything sloppy and there is play in the steering wheel then the box needs adjustment or repair.
