  • Avanti parts car arrived here

This car appears to have been R1 4spd w/air & PB. It was wrecked in front & now has a non-Avanti 289 w/R2/3 parts.
Chassis & hog troughs very nice. All glass good. Trans, s/c, brake booster, fr seats & tach gone. I may part it out or run it on ebay first.

The inter is pretty rough, missing fr seats. Here is a pic of the dash & some of the goodies that came with it.

Tex. Are you sure a r-1 and not a r-2? looks like everything is there for a super charged car.

I'll bet that dash would make someone with a driver pretty happy unless it cracks up when removed. Bob

I have not researched the car's production record, but it looks like it came w/ A/C, so shoulda been R1 originally. I have already thrown an aluminum flywheel up on da 'bay and more is forthcoming as time permits.

My records show it is an R3 owned by Gordon E. Hiltbold, 24 Jefferson Ave. Hasbrouckhgt NJ.

I thought all the R3 cars were known and counted. Wrong information? If it is true that sure puts a new wrinkle in the saving of this car.

Factory produced R3 cars are accounted for but not all R3 engines produced that could be transplants. It doesn't show R3 valve covers so it could be an R2 with R3 pieces...or an R1 with R3 pieces...or a standard non-R engine with R3 pieces.

At least the radio wasn't removed with a crowbar, as I have seen in other specimens.

Thanks for the info, Alan. The car came from NJ. Gordon passed away back in '13 & his son in Patterson sold his cars & parts off. There was also a diesel truck & a 63 Lark coupe in the collection.
The Avanti does not presently have a "B" code engine or even an "R" code, just a "P" code, but if it originally had an R3, it is a worthy project even without the correct engine block!

Any idea how the amount a B code engine would sell, that is if anyone would want to part with the engine or even block? This is way beyond my mortal aspirations but it is always great to see someone step up and save something as historical as one of the nine R3 Avanti's.
