    Another Loewy design

Actually, that's better than some of Loewy's other personal designs...bizarre would be an apt name for them being polite about it. If you look at a number of his designs it's pretty obvious he (or his design team for the Avanti) used the best features of those personal designs for the Avanti.

I guess he saved the best for last.

Other than the front end that looks like a cheesy rubber '83 Camero nose, goofy taillights and the yawning rear window, the rest isn't too bad....

Rear quarter exhibits styling clues for the '63-67 Vette, the front should be with "Mater" in Cars.

Looks like a 69 Vette front with covers over the headlights, cloned to a 63 vette midsection, finished off with an Avanti rear glass and lowered Avanti rear body section, finished off with a pair of oddball tail lamps, hugging the ground so nobody can see them. As to value--it's BMW--not Studebaker--what do you expect!! By the way-it's not the aforementioned Vehicle-totally different front end.

The BMW 507 was a beautiful car and deserves its current value. Loewy's restyling of it is anything but beautiful, although parts of it are "interesting."

Like the '53 Starliner, the original BMW 507 design by Albrecht von Goertz was too nice to be messed with.

For the price of the model, it must run.

Loewy's book was titled "Never Leave Well Enough Alone". It appears that sometimes he should have.

If Studebaker had built a two place car like that with some brand specific touches we would have all loved it. Some cars are an acquired taste.

Loewy hired good people and was good at selling their work.

And taking credit for it...not that's an unusual thing. It's the same as getting a patent when your work was done for the company that pays you for creating it. The work was done on the company's times and the company gets the credit...not saying it's always fair but that's the way it goes.
