Yet again proving most any Stude is worth more in parts than as a complete car. When a core R2 engine goes for $5,000, if one is willing to do the grunt work of breaking it down, photographing, listing, packing and shipping (not to mention answering the million-and-one questions) a $10,000 project R2 4-speed Avanti/Hawk/Lark would certainly bring twice the price.

Only slightly OT, but I've got $5,000 in forged pistons, roller cam, roller rockers, Howard rods, NOS 289" crankshaft, Solanki supercharger, billet timing cover, sitting on the shelf. I bought them for my own Avanti, but haven't gotten around to that build, so probably eventually, I'll sell the parts. They'll net more individually than if I did the machine work and assembled a complete $10,000 engine. As a generality, we CASOs will buy $250-$500-$1,000 parts to put on the shelf for a someday project, but not the big lump sum for a completed project.

Bottom line, one can surmise this R2 listing was a 'someday' project which never got done.

In the one picture of the engine, it looks like it's from a Lark not an Avanti? What's being done with the rest of the car? Is there any more of it for sale?

Keep in mind that $5000 is the asking price, not the selling price.

I think the seller is placing TOO much value on what he thinks is an Avanti Engine, but it may not be.

We need the Engine Serial Number.

Fer sure, but even the serial number is no guarantee. A good friend bought an RS Avanti which turned out to have 259" internals. I personally bought a "P" numbered engine and even verified it had dished pistons; yes, but then found they were hung on a 259" crank. Lotsa CASOs have swapped out lotsa stuff over the years.
