  • 1964 Studebaker Avanti from the Hallbrook Car Collection

1964 Avanti with wire wheels and round headlights was part of one of the biggest and most impressive American car collections in the world. Mecum Auctions priced it at $35,000 - $50,000.

Sold in 2012 for $42,000 plus buyer's premium, which I assume was 10% of the final bid price.

Beautiful Avanti with the proper 'rake'!!....However, if this Avanti is a 1964 transition model, I would question the authenticity of the '64 style 'SUPERCHARGED AVANTI' emblems on its front fenders!

It is not a transitional model.

What's different on a transitional model Avanti?

That would of course mean that this Avanti is an above serial # R-4892 'square light' model which was special ordered with round lamps, OR it was damaged in a collision earlier in its life and was repaired with a 'round light' front nose panel!

A 'transitional' model (or 63 1/2) Studebaker Avanti would be one of the fifty or so cars that for all intents and purposes were regular 1963 models furnished with some of the 1964 interior updates....ALL of which were found on the serial # R-4892 and above '64 'square light' Studebaker Avantis.

Only Avantis with serial number R-5361 and above will have all the interior updates.

This is true!...(thicker padding on the backs of the front bucket seats, different vacuum gauge face plate, and whatever else....?)
