The cab data plate suggests that it is a 3E6-112-C4, but the Truck has been upgraded with a 1964 car 289 V8 motor (2 bbl) instead of the 245 Six. The original 4 spd. transmission was replaced with a 3 spd T-86 O/D transmission also with a floor shift. It is a long box (122" wheelbase) and a deluxe cab.

    Edited to update the pictures.

Nice pickup! I know that the second plate is a YOM plate, but most places strongly "frown on" the display of different number plates at the same time.

Maybe they don't have frowns in different countries. There's a town about 100 miles north of here whose motto is "The town without a frown". Its' name is Happy.

<s>It may technically violate the regulations,</s> but the police here at home tend to leave Collector vehicles alone unless it's something fairly major. [^]

EDIT: Read carefully through the MV Regulations and in BC there is no rule making it illegal to display a 2nd plate of any description as long as the current licence is readily visible. So, I'm legal.

I wasn't concerned in your local area, but I was more concerned about you taking the pickup to another jurisdiction, like to the SDC International.

Yes, I bought my Transtar back in June 2007 from Steve - who is now in Arkansas I understand. About 2 or so years ago my friend up the street from me bought this Red '63 Champ from Steve as well.

So, two of his former Studebaker trucks are now living (in comfort) on Vancouver Island.

Thank-you! And the answer is "yes", but my "needing lots of cosmetic attention" '66 Commander also attracts a lot of attention as well, so I am thinking lots of folks around here enjoy classic automobiles.

You've got it Joe. The interesting thing is that the C-Cab (Transtar) while looking stock has very little that was original from when the truck came out of the factory - the Commander 6 has been swapped out for a '64 289 V8; the 4 spd. transmission is now a T-86 3 speed OD converted to a floor shift; it started life as a short wheelbase (112") and it's now a long wheelbase (122"); etc. And I have the pictures of it being loaded with bark mulch by Steve and his wife.

On the other hand the '63 Champ is completely bone stock with the exception of the a/c compressor which was replaced a few years back (yes, it has factory a/c!).
