  • Brakes: Any Particular Rebuild Order

I'm about to get my 63 GT Hawk back on the road again after way too many years of sitting. To do to that, I'm going to completely rebuild the entire brake system. Master cylinder, hoses etc. Is there any particular order that I should do everything or does it really not matter? Thanks!

This tech is real good advice. Just be sure you don't cut corners on the steel lines and flex hoses.

        Welcome to the SDC Forum!

If you are going to replace everything (master, wheel cyl's., flexible lines, hard lines) at once, it does not matter much. I would prefer to start at the master and work my way out to the wheels to make things easier.
When doing this, you may want to consider a dual master cylinder/dual braking system conversion.

I commend you with starting with the brake system. It is more important to be able to stop than to be able to go.

I have a new hydrovac still in the box if you need one. Best price you'll find anywhere.

Before we can offer any Parts or suggestions, we need to know if we are talking about a Power Disc Brake equipped GT Hawk or a Drum Brake equipped one.

For instance: the Hydravac for a Drum Brake Car will not interchange with a Disc brake Car.
