  • Studebakers at PSMCDR 2007 revisited

This is a post over on V8 Buick by the professional photog who has come out the past few years to take and sell photos. His pictures are first rate and that is why I thought to post this link here so everyone can enjoy them.
These are some awesome shots of the Studebaker racers both on the track and at rest in the pits. [^][^][^]

Yes thanks a bunch. I also found a post about the fastest "Small blocks" and was pleased to see Ted Harbit driving a small block way up on the list.

I think it is amazing the kind of performance the Studebakers bring to the table at the event. Some of the other guys over there think that the Studebaker small block should have its performance noted with an *asterisk* because of the supercharger advantage. Personally, I think if it's a small block, then it belongs on that hot list regardless of the type "aspiration". Heck, my 340 aspires to be on that list. But to no avail............

BTW, what a gracious and polite group they have also. Here's a Studebaker comment:

"One thing is obvious from this, thanks Rusty, and that's that a well tuned and driven small block can be very competitive.
It's also obvious that Granatelli's efforts at Studebaker (with Ted's tuning/driving) and Ford's efforts to combat the "Fuelies" were pretty successful for their time. I lived through the period, and am still learning things from this. "

                My vote is 20% Granatelli, 80% Ted's driving/tuning. (JDP)

Frank, I hate to admit they have a bit of a point, but superchargers, cams, head work and the rest are all designed to get more fuel/air into the engine, superchargers just do it a bit better.

                        THAT'S GREAT! <wishing for a "Thumb's Up" smiley>

That is so true considering the direction a lot of racers are turning to. Turbos and superchargers are sprouting up in growing numbers at the track. Not to mention the ET's are dropping as well! I just love the photos Ted has sent of his twin turbo Avanti project! What a sharp piece of work, and guaranteed to confuse 95% of the racers at any track. I can hear it now: "289? Ain't that a Ford motor??"[:I]

Ted has not been able to get into the 9's even pulling over 600HP out of his heavy 51 Chicken Hawk, the Avanti, with less weight and more HP may do it. I know weight is the enemy, in my youth I raced a 68 Charger RT with a 375HP 440 and my buddy beat me in a 350 cu.in. Olds (W30 ?/W31 ?)
