Look familiar?I was poking around on this site http://www.supercarforums.co.uk/chat...topic.php?t=30
they have pics of down-at-the-heels "supercars" and saw the above pic and thought, "K-body". I know Mercedes and Stude had a business relationship at one point, did they share designs (other than the infamous "tri-star" stuff)?

The only relationship was for the import and sale of MB cars in the US by Studebaker dealers. Outside of that they shared nothing to my knowledge.

If you squint hard enough it almost looks like a 190 SL...if the 190 had some sort of custom factory hardtop.

That right rear fender sure looks strange under that K roof line. Makes ya wonder if it was a marriage.

Apparently the agreement was a bit more than that! Studebaker must have had authority to use any Mercedes designs or parts IN THE U.S. ,probably not outside of the U.S. As evidenced by the Mercedes Sky Tops on Larks, Avanti door locks, Wagonaire Tailgate Latches '62 Lark grilles etc. Some used as is, others copied.

They also had all Parts, Service and advertising authority in the U.S. for all Mercedes and DKW products.

By the way the car pictured looks different than a 190SL because it's a 220S I think it was called, a kind of a Sedan Roadster. It would have been sold by a Studebaker Dealer. The backglass could be a Studebaker C/K piece.

                            It's a rare one.
In 12 years of membership in the the MB Club of America, I don't recall seeing one either in person or the club magazine.
