  • Engine: Remove plugs

What is the trick to removing the two spark plugs that are covered by the power steering reservoir and the hydrovac unit? This problem exists on my 1955 Speedster with the 259.

I'll be watching this, I've got the same problem on my '55 Land Cruiser. I put the plugs in the engine on the engine stand... can't see putting it there again to change plugs.

A plug socket, tiny extension and ratchet, reaching from side and slipping socket on plug. I have sprayed my arms with wd40 to get some plugs out of tight quarters.it helps to make sure your ratchet is set to remove plug not tighten before working socket onto plug. some tite spots need socket dropped onto plug then extension and ratchet put into place. sometimes a swivel will work for an extension but will break plugs if not kept pretty straight. start plugs in by hand, they will usually go nearly all the way with finger power. On my Packard Hawk, which had the same set-up, I just removed the two bolts holding the cast iron bracket to the front two engine studs. (after loosening the adjusting bolts and removing the belt). Then you can lift the pump up and off the studs, and lay it on the intake, without any spillage, if your hoses are long enough. (which they should be if still stock length)
