That seems like a reasonable theory, Craig, until you Google "I-635 in Kansas City". There are plenty of paved alternate routes to get you across the Missouri River. Besides, the story says that the couple were out for "a Sunday drive." Whats the hurry?
I'm sorry that these people had an accident and that the driver was injured. Nonetheless, the root cause of the accident seems to be a lapse of common sense, probably made worse by driving the car faster than would be safe.John

Just to point out Studebaker broke more AAA speed and endurance records in 1928-29 than any other time in history by ANY auto maker in the history of the automobile. A 1928 President with its optional 3.31 axle will drive 90 All day long. Not that I suggest that it’s a good idea mind you but it can do it without hurting it one bit.
