  • Electrical: Prestolite Alternator Wanted

Anyone have a good used Prestolite alternator for a 1965 V8 Wagonaire they'd be willing to part with? Guess one from 1963 up would interchange?
    Thank you

I've got a working model. If I can find it, will let you know. Don't wait if someone else offers one...

'63 - '65 Prestolite 35 amp alternators interchange. The '66 models have a different mounting - a single thick mounting ear as opposed to the two widely spaced ears.
I do have several used ones available, but unknown whether working or not. Probably you can find one much closer to you. If not, contact me then.

I have 3 Prestolites in the garage. I know 1 of them is good. Did I mark it ? No. How can I bench test them to find out ??

I don't know what auto parts stores are around you, but here abouts they can test them on a machine. Usually it's a no charge deal.
Yep, I still need one if you find a good one.

Basic crude bench test. hook field terminal to 12 volt source a batt will do, ground it at vise that's holding it.multimeter hooked to batt. terminal ( the big one ) spin with rope on pulley, watch for voltage indication on meter. DON'T drop alt from vise they are fragile!!!dont ask. Luck Doofus

An oxymoron; they weren't good when brand new. "Not yet failed" might better describe that unit?

There's one listed under Champ truck parts on the swap board for 10 bucks, unknown condition. I don't know if they're different than the cars.
