  • Steering: Power steering for a '53-'55 C/K

There have been a lot of questions asked and a number of different solutions offered to adding p/s to '53-'55 C/K's. I've just contacted a fellow who makes a custom p/s box for the '49-'54 Chevy which he believes should work. I sent him numerous pictures of the Studebaker box and mounting position which he had requested. I got his name from Lares, the steering box re-builder.

These cars ('53 to '56 C/K) were originally available with power steering. Why not find a factory Saginaw unit, add a pump and you'll have power steering just like it came from the factory?

'56 Golden Hawk (3 speed/overdrive, Power steering - Running, but not yet driving)
'58 Packard Hawk. A partially restored car that was not completely assembled.

I believe that finding original components might be a bit difficult. Do you hav them??

Actually, more people than you would think have a '53-'57 Sedan Saginaw Power Steering Gear Assy. laying around, and all you need to do is make a mounting plate to fit a C or K Body and you are almost there!

I used the later model bendix linkage type power steering on a '53 coupe with saginaw steering box so it can be done that way also. Good Luck , Doofus
