  • Rough 41 Champion

Our chapter had a meeting in Conway, Arkansas on Saturday and I spotted this 41 Champion sedan in front of a store. It is rough and missing too many parts to be a good restoration candidate, but had less rust than I expected. There is no engine or transmission and it looks funny on those little wheels. I was not tempted to ask a price, but it was neat to see it anyway.

I love looking at this vintage. They were beautiful cars.

I agree. A 41 Champion is high on my list of cars I would like to own.

Be careful about tempting me. That's the only way I could get one that nice.

52 fan would make a nice street rod but looks even a little rough for that. Would be a good parts car though. Wheels are off a Ford Ranger. Not saying it cant be done would be a lot of work.

Looks like a good candidate for a 'nose-bleed' (ie, a straight axle, high in the front) gasser.

It will probably end up as a rat rod if it doesn't just sit until it's too late. The door hinges are missing from both sides for some reason. I was surprised to see the original suspension after looking at how far under the fenders the wheels looked. I was expecting a half finished suspension swap that didn't fit right.

The wheels are from a Ford Ranger, about 1988, the wrong year [too early] to fit later Studebakers. The backset on those wheels is wrong.

The wheels are, of course, 4 hole so they would only bolt to a 50 and earlier Champion. The offset is wrong and the tires too small to look right, but the car is off the ground and rolls.

                      Ahh !
Didn't look at that. I only noticed the cutouts around the center and didn't
want anyone to think that they were the later Ranger wheels that do fit later Studes.
