Might be kind of a rough ride without anything in all those compartments.

That looks highly restorable. What a great work truck and image builder that could be for a business. Remember the plumber in Arizona featured in TW last year?

That wheelbase sure looks short even though it has a lot of height making it look shorter for a 122 Inch 3/4 Ton Truck, it must have been special ordered in a 112 or shortened.

Looks like it was an Army truck at one time with all the OD paint.

I like it. I would buy it and make it a service truck for my hobby farm if it were not 2500 miles away.

Reply about this truck from Studebaker Truck Talk:

I have this truck's twin, it was delivered to The Bell Telephone Co. Portland,Or. with the 122" wheel base and no bed. The frame was shortened in Portland.

I remember the New Jersey Bell Telephone fleet yard in Pitman having very similar trucks. Along with a fleet of green 1959 or 1960 Larks.

Not Olive Drab...that is Bell System Green on the dash.

In the "salt zone" I can't remember seeing a utility bed more than ten years old that isn't rusted all to heck. Put a little Stude-shine on that and put it to work!

Were these " larger wheel opening Front Fenders " optional on 3/4 ton trucks at the Factory. or was it a case of Customer specific request ?

Usually the 1 Ton and larger trucks had the better looking fenders with the narrow tapered dogleg at the front, and Larger Wheelwell for the Larger Wheels and Tires, the smaller Wheelwell Pickup fenders with the Fat dogleg were used on 1 Tons when a Pickup Box was ordered.

Why a 3/4 Ton has them is anybody's guess, maybe due to the Larger 16 or 17 Inch Wheel Option? Or as you say a "Special Order".

Or there is a slim possibility that this is actually a shortened 1 Ton 3E13-131 which being built as a Cab & Chassis would have the Big Truck Fenders.

Man if I only could,.. I really like that truck. I'd proudly drive it just the way it is.

First you'd have to get the motor unstuck! LOL

No worries, I have a '57 V8 with the bellhousing and four-speed transmission that will work for this truck nicely. In the meantime the engine would provide much needed parts for the 245 six in my '60 Champ!53012 All of which is purely academic as I haven't the resources to go pick this truck up.53013 That's the problem. When I have the resources, none of this stuff shows up. As soon as I'm broke, it's all over the place! Frustrating that, which I'm quite sure happens to a lot of people.
