Original upholstery?

I know virtually nothing about the bullet nose models, but have a chance to buy one.
It's a '50 Commander Deluxe 4 dr sedan. Does anyone know if the upholstery is original?

I also vote "NO". Studebaker used a lot of grey, mostly cloth with some models getting vinyl seat backs and sides. Never used a broad stripe, that I know of.

That cover may be period correct. It could have even been dealer installed. A year or so after I got my first 52 I got up the nerve to remove the ragged covers. The seat looked like it had never been sat on.

That would be my most curious thought. It appears to be an aftermarket period cover. One could hope!

A plus is, I see the O.D. Handle! A Commander "245" with Overdrive, can actually get going quite well with 4.56 or 4.09 rear Gears, and still Cruise pretty well!

I would not fret about the Seat Covers, they look period correct and should wear well.
The Originals would have been a closer match to those original Door Panels.

Yes, what the others said, those are seat covers, but are in real nice shape. Chances are the original material, a pinstriped fabric, is underneath.

Looks like a pretty decent unmolested car.

My 51 commander had the original seat covers when I got it and did not look anything like that. It had a narrow strip nylon cover with no vinyl . I may have saved some of it I will check too see if I can find it

Seat covers (the kind that goes over the factory upholstery) came in a variety of colors and patterns. I have 3 different ones here right now that would fit my 52 and be correct for the period.
As several have said the actual upholstery is probably gray with a pattern. It was nice looking, but did not hold up well in heavy use and many people covered the seats from the time they were new.

Given the head light surrounds, it looks like an early 1950 to me. other options were all chrome and all plain, no chrome at all.

Otherwise a very nice looking find. Would like to see more pictures after you look at it!
