  • Paint: 1947 Champion Trim Color - Red - Modern equivalent?

    Hi everyone,

I'm looking to touch up the red trim color on my 47 Champion Convertible hood emblem. But, I'm not sure what the original spec red color would have been.
My SNM Production order has the body color as P2158 Black (Velvet Black) and Trim as T7262 RD Leather.

The red color I'm looking for would be applied on the wheels (I think) and in the hood emblem behind the "S" as shown in the pic.

Any advice on a good modern spray paint in a correct red would be appreciated!

    Thanks,
    Michael

I had to get a pint mixed up custom but it turned out nice. I can look up the paint code I used if it will help.
March, 2007 I did some e-Bay scrounging over the winter. Now that the weather has improved I installed some of my finds. I also repainted some of the chrome The “nose” trim on the front…

      Hi nvonada!

      Gorgeous '41 you have there!

Yes, if it isn't too much trouble I would appreciate knowing the paint code you used.

      Many thanks!

This may be a CASO answer --- years ago I took the hood ornament to a hobby shop and bought a small bottle of the matching colour of paint. No one has ever said the colour is wrong.

              Thanks guys!
I don't trust the paint color on the ornament I have now to match to, because it has a few different reds on it. 3 shades, in fact, in different layers.

That's why I was looking for a "correct" red. If there is one.

I've read through all the posts I can find related to this on the forum. Many suggest using thinned hobby enamel, to minimize brush strokes. Which sounds like a good idea. One even used nail polish!

But no one mentions the name of a red they actually obtained. (Classic Red, Fiesta Red, Venetian Red, etc)

The hobby paint that I used is "Pelikan Top Color Enamel", 28 Deep Red. (The last time I used it was to paint tail lights on my 2R16A Studebaker fuel truck Dinky Toy after a friend restored it for me.) The bottle is old enough that the label says "Made in West Germany".

Ah, ok. Thanks Greenstude! I can easily look that up and get an idea of the color. Many thanks.

I also realize I'm getting a little carried away with this. I was concerned that there was a "correct Studebaker red" for use (Kinda like "Loma Grey") but seems that's not necessarily the case.
I'll take some "before and after" photos and share them, in case anyone else runs into this kind of question in the future.

I really appreciate all the responses and advice on this. Thanks to you all!

Here is the paint I used. This was a color match off some trim on the dash.
