Spring cleaning time?

I have a friend without internet access (he's a bit curmudgeonly), who is looking for a first gen Lark that has Tahiti Coral, Flamingo or another pastel-shaded finish. He cares less about mechanical shape than the body and is willing to look at any and all in number 3 condition or above. Location: Detroit.

I think you know about my '59 already~

52497
Yes- she's still for sale 'as is' at a very nice (negotiable) price of $999.

But now there is a third '59 Regal in the family~

52496
That one has a six/od and may or may not be on the market soon...

All I need to know is what your idea of 'condition three' is.
Neither car currently runs if that matters.

Really a tough call, but I'd say that 6 cyl. would be nice to get a hold of, not knowing interior condition though it catches My Eye.

It's actually pretty nice inside, but we have yet to clean it up.
However since the Lark VI is my brother's car~ I will not be posting any more pics just yet.

Sorry.

really, really nice car William. I wonder what Studebaker was thinking putting a 120mph speedo in it though? Honestly, this car doesn't have even a breath of a prayer to make 120mph! Looks impressive in the dash though.;) Sweet little car. I'd bet she was originally purchased for a sweet sixteen girl. Just has that look.

Thank you Studeclunker she is a nice little car. Don't really want to see her go but I have to many cars. And she deserves a good home with some one that knows what she is. 120mph not even dawn hill.:D

Actually, 120 MPH IS possible.
120 MPH = 10,560 FPM
26.9" Dia tire= 7.0404 ft/rev
10560/7.0424=1499.4888 RPM
1499.4888x 3.31=4963 RPM

26.9" Dia tire, 3.31 Rear gears, 1:1 transmission ratio = 4963 engine RPM

I've been VERY close to it in my 59 Lark w/ 259 and 4V, AT. I ran out of road.

Maybe they did that to remind you that a V8 has all that and more... :yeahright: :whome:

But seriously- you don't really think they should'a had a different speedo for the cars with a six do you? They hadn't done it before- why would they start with the Lark...?

There's a nice one available in Olympia WA, but it may have some engine issues.

My friend--James Estabrook, btw--wanted me to thank you for all the prospects you have provided him with. While he is looking for a #3 (his take on this is a no-rust, currently running and driving but not show ready ride), he has been quite happy to get a gander at all of these. When he makes a move, you'll get a pm. Thanks, again!

So now I have a target to aim for... ;)

Thank you for clarifying.

When we say "first gen Larks" do we include 61?
Let the debate begin!

I think so. It takes you a half moment to discern a '61 from '59 or '60 (unless you're staring at the dash). Much bigger change between '61-'62 then in previous year. Even though Skybolt begins with '61...

Good question, I've always kinda looked at 61s as being a transition body.rear portion looks like 59,60 - rocker panels, front fenders are 62,63 - even the wind shield looks more like a 62 "though I think 61 is one Year only" not to mention the 61 only rear window.

That is probably a good question because it definitely IS up for debate.

My opinion is First Generation, is just that... 1959.

Of course the 1960 Models can only be determined by the Rear Quarter Mouldings, Lark VI or VIII on the Front Fenders, the Grille, Side Grilles, Taillight Lenses and Colors from the outside, and more differences inside.

Also a redesigned 2 Door Wagon without "C" pillars, New Tailgates, and New 4 Door Wagon and Convertible Models added.

Not visible on the '60 & up Larks is the Rear Wiring Harness being rerouted on the Floor instead of the Frame, and an added disconnect at the Main Harness.

___________________________________________________________________

But the '61 has a lot more changes/upgrades than a first glance will notice, definately NOT a first Gen. Lark.

It has a New Wiper Motor and Windshield used only in '61-'62, the last on Larks, of the non-overlapping wipers.

BIG changes were: the Ram Air, Cowl Vent Climatizer System, suspended Clutch & Brake Pedals, Saginaw Recirculating Ball Type Steering Gear, New King Pins & Alignment Specs., redesigned dash, New one-off Rear Backlights different on Both short Wheelbase and Cruiser Long Wheelbase Larks, the controversial raised above the Body Line Side Mouldings, raised center section of Hood and Decklid, New Front Panel, New one-off Grille, New Dual or Single Headlights, New Bumpers with "Dip" in middle to clear the Grille, New Chromed Taillight Lenses WITH Side Marker Light Windows, New T/L Housings with relocated Bulb Sockets onto the Rear Panel instead of Rear Panel & Fender etc, etc.
Not to mention the New "Skybolt Six", 170 OHV Engine.
