View Full Version : Steering/shift control installation

I am re-installing the steerring and shift controls in my '64 Studebaker Champ P/U (8E5). In the Studebaker Truck Shop Manual: Covering 2E through 8E Series, Group IV, "Automatic Transmission," at the bottom of p.31 is a drawing for 'Reassembly and Installation." In the drawing , 2 shows bracket bolts. They are called "special." They are Illust. #0756-56, PN 532549 on page 156 in Truck Parts Catalog: Studebaker 7E-8E Series and nuts, (January 1963) [green cover]. Does anyone know where I can get these "special" bolts
and nuts?

My guess is the bolts are "L" shaped on one end and threaded on the other, designed to slip into the slots in the steering post jacket.

Yes, they are sort of an 'L' bolt. I don't see them listed online, but not every single part stocked is listed by SDC the vendors, so give them a call. If the usual places don't have them, try Tom Karkiewicz in South Bend. Tom Karkiewicz 574-287-5834.

Yes, also try SI with Studebaker part number. Ask to have someone in South Bend check number for stock. They have many, many parts there not listed in their catalog.

I will be in town tomorrow noon. I can check then if you still need them.

SI in South Bend has 2 "1692741 bolt to jacket". It is a small J bolt.

Thanks all. Yes, I contacted SI about these. They have them. Also, Studebaker's West has some.
