    Desert Classics, Butte, Montana

    HI,

    I new to the Studebaker Forum. I have been a fan of Studebaker cars since I was five years old. It was the article in the January 1963 edition of Popular Mechanics, "Test Matching Corvette, Avanti, T-Bird and Riviera", that caught my eye. The Avanti was the most unusual car I had ever seen. I asked my Dad about it and all he would say is, "they don't make it any more". I still have that copy of Popular Mechanics, "Brass Trim for Tomorrow's Cars?"

    My main question to the Forum is: Has anyone had any experience with Desert Classics? I am currently looking at a 1957 Studebaker Commander Provincial Station Wagon. It's pricey but appears to be in fair shape. If anyone has had dealings with Desert Classics, please let me know about your experience. Thanks.

    They are probably fine, but my experience is; you always get a better deal from an Owner than a Dealer marking it up and adding paperwork fees and Tax to your bill.

      On the 'plus' side- they have TWO '57 Presidents to help in the resto.
      On the not so plus side- their prices are a bit steep.

      They have a bunch of other cool odd stuff besides the Studes.

      Like buses. Lots and lots of interesting buses...

        They had a 1957 Broadmoor offered a few years back. Wasn't as rough as this Provincial. Had the rear tailgate window busted out but was complete otherwise.
        I guess it was sold as I don't see offered anymore.
        Maybe someone in our group purchased it?

          Honestly- it looks like a better car that 'sold' for way less money compared to this Provincial.

            Despite being in the desert, the left rear wheel looks like it's been buried in mud. The soil is above the bottom of the hubcap. I can't make out a flat tire, so I'd be curious about the condition of the floor and frame.

              If anyone is interested, I have access to a VERY solid, disassembled but complete '57 Broadmoor that is for sale. I think the engine has been rebuilt. Engine and transmission are out of the car, seats and door panels have been reupholstered. Please email me at brngarage@gmail.com for pictures.

                  Do you guys remember the one I pictured (Provincial I think)from northern Nevada(complete with tumble weeds) last year? If not I can probably find it and and repost if anyone is interested.

                    Anyone have an idea if this place will negotiate or do they stick to their price? There is one or two I'm interested in (non-Studebaker).

                      Helena Montana I am hopeful finding one who can get my overdrive working again. It worked 3 months ago!
