  • Rear Axle: 1955 studebaker 1/2 ton pickup truck

I just found out that the rear end in my 1955 1/2 ton truck that we are restoring is damaged beond repair. Does anyone know of a replacement for sale or have any info of a late model relacement options.

I know of at least one local to Nashville in a 58 that the guy started turning into a Rod that he'd sell, but shipping would be a pain.

Specifically what is beyond repair? All the parts are readily available, both used and new.

FWIW, a local Stude guy drove two hours each way to pick up a $100 used rear axle, spent most of a day installing it and after test-driving it, discovered it had a loud whine. Used axles are sometimes good, sometimes not.

To add to what PackardV8 said, your truck has a Dana 44 rear axle, which was used by many other makes of car and truck, including modern Jeeps. As a result, most of the internal parts are readily available and may even be in stock if you have a shop nearby that specializes in off-road vehicles.
