  • Electrical: Tail/back light switch - where to find?

Someone knows, where I could find the switch for the backlight in a Hawk with a 3 speed gearshift?

I need to replace it (for German license).

    Guten tag Walter,

Which switch you need exactly? Brake light, Backup (reverse) light or what?
Love Munich I was stationed at Freidburg (Ray Barracks) Elvis's duty station also.

The switch is screwed to the steering column on the engine side of the firewall. It should be located just above the column shift levers, and they have a small link that attaches them to the lever.

Alright, I should be able to dig through my stash of NOS electric components and see if I have such an animal.

Is it for your '56 or your '60 Hawk?

Yes that IS A Standard Trans. Back up light switch, but they all are different shapes almost every year or column change year, can't be sure which it is but if you can make it work go for it.

I see it does not have the Joggle in the Lever like the '56 Pictured in Post #7, it may be for a Lark or other model or year.

Manual Trans. Cars only have 2 Wire Terminals, Automatics have 4 because of the Neutral Switch being included.

The 1549583 is for Standard trans. '60-'61 Hawk.

A '56 Hawk with Manual Trans. and Saginaw Power Steering gets a 534389.

The "AC-XXXX" Kits include the screws.

Backup Lights are not used for "Driving", so in the States are not required, but if they insist, bless their little overkill hearts!

                    Walter,
Nearest I can see, that is the same part as in brngarage's picture above, of the one on his 56J, with power steering.

If your car has power steering, that look s like the part. If yours is not power steering, that part will not work on your car.

                      Thanks Richard,

I'll have to remove the lights , then they won't be required. German: all which is there, it has to function in a right way - like Volkswagen!

The GH doesn't look so fine without the small backlights.

So I'll be looking for both switches.
