  • Correct cowl seal?

I bought a new piece of cowl seal to go on my 1950 Champion. This is the rubber that sits where the back end of the hood rests when it is shut, just in front of the windsheild. The piece that I was sold is at least 1/2 inch thick. The one I just took off appears to have been about 3/16 inch thick. Was the original thicker and over 57 years just got mashed or is the one I bought going to be too thick when I attempt to close the hood some day when I put it all back together.

You are correct, the old one was crushed.

Tape the rubber in place when you try the hood. I don't know about your '50,but I had to have the seal on my Hawk to help adjust the gap.
[the rubber helped the hood stay high enough to line up with the cowl]

The hump on the seal goes toward the windshield.
