  • '64 Convertibles aplenty in "Partners In Progress" parade Sept. 15, 1963

Prominent business owners of South Bend sponsored a week of activities focusing on supporting local business and promoting civic pride. It was called "Partners In Progress Week." The seven days of activities culminated on September 15, 1963 with a big parade witnessed by 115,000 local residents. It also served to introduce the new line of 1964 Studebaker vehicles as shown in this image. One of a few dozen photos of the event I have.

      Thanks, Dick.

Unbelievable in that at least two of the convertibles (front center and outside 2nd row) appear to have dog-dish hub caps! I can't remember ever seeing a factory photo of a 1964 Daytona convertible without the attractive new 1964 full wheel covers.

Interesting....and I'm sure that some wag will sooner or later point out that they are going the wrong way. Ominous. BP

Nice picture. Interesting that the front center convert is sporting hubcaps, not wheelcovers.

Edit, looks like Bob and I replied at the same time.

Such a query could stimulate an interesting discussion of how they got there at this late date, Rich. BP

Wasn't mine, since it was not built Dec. 17th

What other Studebaker connection is in that photo? Quinn, put on your thinking cap.

The queen and her court were on the corporate float which had an International theme and was pulled by an Avanti. It was one of 10 Avantis in the parade. Incidentally this was the first times that the new Lazy S logo received widespread exposure.

Your question too general. I would guess that you were in that crowd pick-pocketing but that is not Studebaker related.

The two dark colored cars on the front row appear to have R badges on the front renders.

Far back down the street, Rex, around the 1963 convertible pulling the float, there appears to be a lot of oil dry on the street. Is that it? BP
