  • Wheels / Tires: Hubcaps for a 1957 golden hawk

Were there two options for hubcaps on a 1957 golden hawk? Where can I purchase the other option? Were wired ones an option? Which set is most desirable on the 1957 model?
    Thanks

Not really two "options", but there were two different full wheelcovers (no "hubcaps") available for a 1957 Golden Hawk.

The stainless full wheelcover that was optional on most "lesser" models was standard equipment on the 1957 Golden Hawk. The spoke type of full wheelcover was an option on the 1957 Golden Hawk.

I prefer the spoke type. The wire type of cover was only correct for 1953 - mid-1956.

These are pretty hard to find in good condition, but they may not be as "Spoke Type" as you expected.

They are just Stamped and Black Painted Stainless, "Simulated" Spoke type, this is the Optional Type AC-2799 Wheelcover in 15 Inch size that Gary Mentions:

However my Parts and accessories Price List Book "F" from March 1, 1961 shows them good from 1956 to 1960.

This "MAY" mean they are "Appropriate" and Fit those Models, because I remember no '56's with them.

The only '58's they would fit would be the ones with the Optional 15 Inch Wheels and Scotsmans, as all others had 14 Inch Wheels.

The "Most Desirable" would be the one YOU like!
Most would probably say the Optional one due to it's rarity, but it is YOUR Car.

There were no Factory or Authorized Studebaker Dealer issued "Wire" Wheels.
But then again, it's not a 1932 Model, so IMHO it does NOT need them.

I never tire of looking at beautiful cars, and Studebaker sure set a high standard in the 50's and early 60's. Love those Golden Hawks.

I always thought the Wire Covers were first used in 1952 as an option. some People refer to these as Speedster Covers.

You might try contacting Richard Quinn. I was looking for the same, he had one repro left from the run he had produced earlier plus one NOS that he was willing to sell. But I was unable to complete the set so went for the standard for GH, AC-2811. Good luck on your search.

Thanks for the description and picture of the spoke type that I mentioned.

They became an option in the middle of the 1956 model year when the bolt-on wire type went away.

EDIT: This; http://www.1956goldenhawk.com/hubstory.htm supports my memory on this.
