  • Electrical: wiring diagram

Hello where can i find a diagram for a 64 champ with an alternator. My manual only shows generaters. The p.o. put custom gauges in but never got them right. I put a nos dash pod in but dont know how the amp light wires in.

I am not sure that the majority of Trucks at least ever had Alternators.
Most Champ owners here like me (I have had 5), all say they were Generator equipped.

So if that is true, it means there never was a Studebaker with a Idiot Light for the Charging System AND an Alternator. The Prestolite Alt. was not wired for a Charge Light like the GM Alt's are.

No doubt Randy Rundle can shed all the information you need. A Studebaker lover who specializes in issues of converting 6 to 12 volt and generator to alternator. He posts every month in TURNING WHEELS.

What brand of alternator do you have? Sme of these have a internal regulator. There will be a large post that needs to be connected to the batery. There is also a two wire plastic plug that will go to a light.

Maybe you can post a snapshot of what you have.

My instrurment cluster has the amp light just like my 60 champ. It is a prestolite alt just like my 64 crusier with a small two wire regulator on the fender. Did the 64 champ have an ameter in the original cluster. I havent seen one in any of the clusters i have noticed or a provison for one. I wont be able to get any picture til the weekend. This truck had a botched up homemade dash cluster in it so i am not sure what is right for it. If someone has info it sure is appreciated. I may just hang a ameter and oil gauge under the dash cause i like it better any way. Thankd dan

My 64 Champ, one of the last 200 8E7s made, has a generator and an amp light in the cluster. Somewhere along the way an ammeter and oil pressure gauge were added, for which I am grateful.

Yea im going to add the gauges i just like better. But i have thru all the harness and it all looks original like my 60. There are no wires in it for the amp light.
