View Full Version : GT Hawk ebay heads up

If you recall the white GT Hawk on ebay that had a line that said they'd sell it for $7200 to the "right owner." I reported it to ebay since it was a off ebay buy it now and it was pulled and relisted. I bid again, and was high bidder when he canceled all the bids, so I rebid and found I was blocked by the owner from bidding. Not sure what is happening, but it sure seems odd, so be careful if you win the car.

Just asked him for the VIN and his addy for an up close and personal visit and inspection. Lets see if he responds and if he does I'll send two folks to look at the car for an experts opinion.

Well, either he found out you reported him or maybe he doesn't want to see someone buying and flipping his hawk.

Well any fool knows you don't advertise a 44 year old, well used and partially restored car with 4000 miles, and not mention that it is not actual! He has 0 sales or purchases, not good for a seller. :(

The guy might very well be legit, he only blocked me as far as I can tell since I had a friend bid successfully. The bidding was about 2K over his reserve when he canceled my bid. I have to assume he does not want me to buy the car for what ever reason, and I'll respect that rather then have a buddy bid for me. He may really want to find the right guy to buy the car and is willing to take a pretty decent hit on the price to do that. He should have done a preapproved bidder auction so he could weed out the undesirables. :)

Okay... so now we're sending sheriff deputies to a sellers home if they don't respond to an e-mail?

His listing calls the engine a "six", and he states the interior is leather when it is pretty clearly vinyl. The wood on the dash looks good, but I doubt it's authentic. Looks like it has a Delcotron rather than the correct Prestolite alternator. All of which are "nits" but indicate to me that the seller doesn't really know the car all that well.

This one that I would not touch without having a trusted third party see it up close and personal.

True, but there is a off chance that the guy really is looking for the right new owner and he could get a great deal on a car only needing detail work. The guy's first listing said he's take $7200, but it hit his reserve at $6600 before he canceled the bids. I did e-mail him asking why I was blocked, no reply yet.

Seems this car may have been in the Kruse Auction in Hershey this fall. The more that I have looked at this car the more i think it is the same one. It is really strange that he will not respond to me with addy and other data as I have folks standing by to look at the car but I will not bid without an inspection. He lives near several TVA lakes is it a dead fish I smell here?

The 7,200 BIN is the same BIN as that used by the dude that was listing all types of expensive cars a while back on eBay. If I recall he was in Europe somewhere and was removed from eBay a number of times. I clicked on this seller and got the message that he/she had been removed???? It doesn't seem right...

I got a response:

quote:
Hi,
First of all, I must apologize for my reticence with selling my car. I love this car and it means a lot to me. I am forced by a bank loan to sell it. The loan does not involved him, but i need the money and i must do that. The car is like new, in perfect condition, no marks or need for additional repairs what so ever. The real miles onboard, a great car ready to be yours. It has no accident or any engine problem. The car is located in Sevierville TN.
The final price is $7,200 with shipping for free(if necessary in the continental US),since my brother in law works at DAS,and he promised me that it will cost me nothing to ship it to you. I dont want to offend you by anything but if we are going to complete the sale we are going to use Ebay Purchase Program which will cover the purchases up to 20,000 USD.
If you agree with my terms, i will need your name and address and i will contact ebay to inform them about our agreement and to start the program to protect us.If this is ok with you and you want me to explain how the process works, please email me and i will do that.
Respectfully,
Debra Chepren

Hi,
First of all, I must apologize for my reticence with selling my car.

Notice that the seller states that you are protected "up to 20,000 USD." That is not a term that a typical American would use (especially one from Tennessee) and should be clear indication that the seller is overseas.

Also the response makes no sense. "I am forced by a bank loan to sell it"? What does that mean??? She then states in the next sentence that the bank loan does "not involve him, but I need the money". Who is "him" and what does that have to do with the car?

If it is too good to be true, it is (especially if you can't see and feel it).

Funny how the bank loan is forcing him to sell it.....
The bank here had a spot in front where they would put "For Sale" cars, as the bank loan that went belly up on the cars forced the bank to sell it. [:o)]
If the bank loan does not involve him, and he is neither owner nor accountant, then what *bleep* is he doing selling the car? ;)

Ooooopsss, lol......

I kinda took it that "him" was the car, since the seller is supposedly a "she".

Guys, don't feel bad as I got the same message twice so now how do I get the car inspected with no time left to do so? My guy who was going to see the car for me is on his way to FLA even though he onlived a stone's throw away. Oh well that's how it goes.

I just received this email from "Debra":

Mark,

Let me explain you how the eBay process works.
The process works something like this:
1. You send the payment ($2,500) to an eBay motors representative.
2. eBay will confirm me that you have made the payment.
3. I will ship you the car so you can inspect (3 days), test drive the car or you can come and pick up yourself (it's your choice) because shipping is payed in advance by me..
4. If you will not get exactly the same car that you have viewed in the ad, and also a clean title you will receive all your money back from eBay motors.
5. If everything is ok eBay motors will get the approval from you to release me the founds.
If you agree with this process please let me know your ebay ID, full name and address and I will forward the details to eBay motors.

Regards,

Debra
