Steering column replacement

I don't think you need a new column. Those GM tilts always loosen up with age, need to disassemble and tighten up 4 bolts add some Loctite and away you go-$5.00 repair. Just takes forever. When I worked in the insurance industry, there used to be specialists who repaired these for a living as well as repairing the columns from thefts. There must be 10 or more U-tube videos on how to do it. I don't think putting an aftermarket one in would be any easier, as you'll have to adapt wiring and change the lock to match anyway. Check listings for steering column repair services (some are mobile) or check with a local body shop-they will know somebody that does it (they don't like fixing them either). Every part is available aftermarket and cheap, so even if yours is beat up, it will look and work like new when they are done. Worth looking into. All the replacement columns need exact measurements from yours to make it a bolt in, don't know if yours is like the 63-64 but the bracket at the top is welded in place, I think theirs uses a clamp system which may mean your column might move down from the dash a little at the cutout area.Last edited by karterfred88; 10-14-2015, 06:23 PM.
