  • Electrical: Dim lights

The 62 GT Hawk's lights get MUCH brighter when the rpm increases. The car has an alternator so I was surprised to see this happening. Even the radio gets louder. The car always starts, even after sitting for several days so this causes me to think that the battery is working properly. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

I would have the battery load tested after you make sure it's fully charged.
Also have the alternator output tested. Maybe it's putting out too much voltage.

Check the tightness of the belt for starters.Could possibly be the voltage regulator, but I'm sure the experts will chime in here at some point.

        check voltage

Get a volt meter connect to battery "cables".
See what voltages are at idle & at rpm up.
If over 14 volts at rpm up (check regulator)
If under 12.5 volts at idle (check regulator, belt, alternator, battery).
Post these voltages & the boys will give better advice.

p.s. always check battery terminal connections

          Electrical connections. Specially grounds.
All grounds need to be bright, clean and tight.
          No rust, oil, grease, paint.
Check ALL connections in the circuit, including the wire as it comes out of the terminal.
Clean the connections, no corrosion, etc, etc, etc.
The body and frame are used as ground connections.
