View Full Version : ANOTHER SCAM TO BE AWARE OF!

I get these from time to time; it's another spin on phishing! This comes with an official-looking PayPal header, but the low-quality-looking cyrillic type. Also shows "To: undisclosed recipients" in the header.

The idea is, you see a charge to your PayPal that you didn't make, so you of course need to remedy that; the key is, they give you the link to click on to dispute it. There, they agree to take care of it right away, and all you need to do is "log on to your account", which actually is a redirect to the scammer, who harvests your info, and accesses your account:(:(

With my server, I clicked on the link just to see what it would do, and it goes to a warning page that it's a known phishing site; yours may or may not do the same...

Here's the body of the e-mail; came under the PayPal header, which for some reason didn't copy:

I feel very safe doing business on line because I exercise common-sense caution, but the crooks are creative and clever; so be careful! Lots of us know about and can recognize these, but some of us are still learning (like me!)... so if you already know, that's great; if not, read and heed!;)

I bought the PayPal "code generator" to help avoid some types of scammers, for $5.00 it's not bad!

I don't think they can get in without the code!

I too just received a Paypal code generator; it is a keychain size device which generates a different 6-digit random # about every 30 seconds.
You have to enter the current # when you login your account, right after your password.
You can still get into your account without it, by answering security question. Also, you can activate/deactivate it any time.

I was wondering how long the battery in it works. It looks like a sealed unit.
