  • Start up and run in - yea

Got the Saturday Night Special started up and run in some. Ran about half hour and cooled down. Then about an hour and cooled down. It seemed the cooling system worked and the carb seemed like it was working. (could hold hand on carb after a hour running. Could not on rest of engine. I used a canvas insulator, a heat shield and a demon composite body carb. The fuel lines and choke hookup, etc are all temporary. I will put the rest of the shielding on after run in and head re torque as well as valve adjustment. The rad. and shroud will come back off before frt sheet metal assy. Air cleaner will take air in from left grill opening.

One of the biggest milestones during a build. Congrats!

If you have a new cam, lifters, etc. in it, be sure to start and run at about 2,000 RPM initially to break them in.

Harbor Freight has their laser thermometer on sale right now for $25.99. Great to check various places in the cooling system for problems.
