With the hotels in Reedsville booked to 30 miles out, I've decided to go to South Bend instead. I know SI is there (and open on Thursday and Friday) and the museum is there but what else is worth seeing? I sure I'll have dinner at Tippecanoe Place. Is the old proving grounds open? Maybe the Auburn-Cord-Duesenburg Museum? Anything else?

If you are pressed for time it might be better to wait for May and the Studebaker Swap Meet, there are usually tours and certainly a lot of Stude folks around but I'm not trying to talk you out of this trip.
Tha ACD Museum will eat up at least 1/2 day.
Bon Voyage, Bob

The Pottowatami (spelling?) Zoo is really quite decent. The downtown whitewater courses may have some action if you're there on the weekend, you can tour Notre Dame (statue to Knute Rockne just outside the stadium - prob more tributes elsewhere), tour the "Hummer factory", Go to Riverside Cemetery and City Cemetery (not certain if that's the proper name, but close to Western Ave and not for from downtown and the Methodist Church that the Studebakers generously funded) and see the family's monuments, tour the home of the Olivers which is Copshalholm (spelling again) and right next to the museum (quite interesting, OR go to the archives and have a look at the info there!

I'll be back in May. But I have two days to kill in northern Indiana next month. As for the buildings, I might have time for a little urban exploration...Tom - Bradenton, FL

Stop in the Avanti mini museum and guest house, across Thomas Street from the Studebaker National Museum entrance. There is all types of Avanti and Studebaker memorabilia throughout the house. If you're going to stay for a day or two in South Bend, you can book a room at the Avanti Guest House through AirBnB.com and avantihouse.comLew Schucart

There are more museums around the ACD museum well worth seeing, one right next to ACD, and a early Ford museum, you can get brochures there.
And i have a funny story about Shipshewana,
My cousin from California picked me up (in his 1932 Hemi powered street rod) to go on a great tour, First we stopped in South Bend, we got brochures there. so we headed to the Hudson musem in Shipshewana, well i needed cash so i went to a bank across the street from the Hudson museum, got $500 out, we left the Hudson museum and headed to the Mini Street Rod Nationals in Kalamazoo Mi. My better half called me and said to call the bank. so i called the bank and they told me someone in India had got ahold of my debit card number and had gotten $500 out, I laughed and told her about Shipshwanna. Indiana. Any way we left Kalamazoo to go on a great NSRA tour through Canada to the Mini Nationals in Burlington Vermont. With great stops at wonderfull car shops all thru Canada. Came back to the ACD museum and back home. Great trip, I have pics if anyone wants me to post some.101st Airborne Div. 326 Engineers Ft Campbell Ky.
