  • 1950 convertible

Another 1950 convertible someone ought to save. If it weren't an automatic transmission and on the far side of the country from me, I'd consider getting it myself, 'cause one of these is still high on my wish list. (The bad floors do give me pause too, I admit.)

Looks like a $1500 parts car to me. I bought a 48 Starlight Regal Coupe for $6000 two years ago, with nice interior and dash, excellent running engine and trans, good tires, and all the trim pieces. It ran great, handled poorly and the brakes were crap, but that is because it was a stock 48 Champion. It would take many, many thousands of dollars and several years of someone's spare time to make this convertible as nice as the one I bought.
Trying to build a 48 Studebaker for the 21st century.

I have a body that would make a turn key job of restoring that rag top!

For sure that 1950 Champion is very restorable and deserves to be saved and restored.

Doesn't someone make replacement floors for this car?

Going by the photos, that car appears to have fallen into BP's 'Made-it-but-somehow-lost' category. http://forum.studebakerdriversclub.c...netheless-lost

It appears that it had a prior restoration.

And now they've put in on eBay. It started out with a $7,000 minimum bid with a reserve, with a $15,000 Buy It Now (!), and now they've lowered it to a $995 minimum bid, still with a reserve (maybe the $6,000 I think they were asking on Craigslist? Or the $7,000 they started the bidding at originally, perhaps) with a still-too-high Buy It Now of $12,000.

I'd have guessed that the $6,000 they were originally asking on Craigslist wasn't too bad a price, given the work it needs and the work it doesn't need. Anyone have any thoughts as to the most appropriate price?

Ended at $5,100 and now they've relisted it as a straight Buy It Now on eBay for $12,000. Stubborn, stubborn. I get the impression that they have no real idea what they're doing and have been looking at Blue Book "values" rather than actual sales, 'cause the ones I've seen sell in the $12K-$15K range have been much nicer.
