I have tried to keep my '54 looking stock, while making some upgrades including a 12 volt conversion. I am happy with the performance, but the modern battery looks out of place.
I located a scrap of plastic, and cut it to fit inside my battery hold down. Then I used a 1" hole saw to cut holes for the battery posts and 3 holes where the caps would go on a 6 volt battery. I cut the necks off 3 oil bottles, leaving a rim on the bottom. The bottle necks were a tight fit in the 1" hole, I used a rubber mallet to drive them in. Once in place they are retained by the ring the cap seats on and the rim I left on the bottom.
A Willard sticker completes the look. I'll be changing the caps to red or yellow, all I had around were black or gray.

      Hi Joe,
I Had a few issues, had a drive line vibration that I fixed thanks to excellent information found here by doing a search. Had an intermittent fuel delivery problem traced to a tiny leak letting air in the system. I put an electric pump pushing from the back, and found the leak under pressure. Under suction from the mechanical pump it let air in, but no visible gas leaking out. Again found help searching here. Thanks everyone !

A friend has machine that makes stickers for signs. We searched Willard on Google images, and found one I liked. He copied it to the machines computer and cut it out. The red background went on first, then the letters on top of that.

I LOVE IT!...You have the modern convenience which comes with having a 12 volt electrical system, but have kept the stock 6 volt look to keep the old farts happy!.....Like me!

Great job. I love crafty things like this that work so nice. You have a unique item that can't be bought in the mass market.

Well envisioned and very well executed. Good on Ya! As Dick once(?) said... it's all in the details. I love stuff like this where at first glance, people can't tell what you've done, they only know you've done something!

A couple years ago, I decided to move the battery to the trunk of the GT Hawk. This left the apparent bare spot under the hood.. So to make it look right, I left the battery tray installed. Then took an old battery and carefully cut off the top, gutted the insides and fashioned a way to reattach the top. The plan was to use it for a hiding place for a remote brake fluid tank, radiator overflow and whatever else seemed cool.
That plan never came to fruition, but I still have a cool utility battery box....

I did EXACTLY the same to my '63 Avanti....in effect correcting the '3EE' battery goof Studebaker made!
