Tripod armrest for rear seat of 1954 Studebaker Commander

  • #2
    Ed,
The only thing "Commander" means is that it is a V8 car. A Commander can be any of several body styles including Station Wagon, 2 or 4 door Sedan, Hardtop, Coupe.

I'm assuming you mean for a C body (coupe) or K body (hardtop), in which case the part for a Champion is identical.

54 rear center arm rests are a one year only item.

That's not a 54 with the three chrome non retractable legs.

Came out of my 54K. If not, what is it from Brad. Bob

The fabric/vinyl rear seat backrest looks like it came out of a '54.....and the L&R seat cushions, in pleated solid vinyl, may be from another '54, but the 'drop down' center armrest probably came out of a 1955 or 1956 'C' or 'K' body.

C/K front and rear seats from the various years can be 'mixed & matched', and many owners did just that! (especially the fabric/vinyl rear seat cushions. They ALWAYS split or tore long before the fabric/vinyl backrest did!

Thanks, Ed It proves that even in my dotage there's still a lot for me to learn about Studebakers. Bob

A tangent, but I wonder why they got rid of the handy storage cubby that armrest had in '53? I know on my '53 I've stashed my camera or water bottle, or a couple cans of pop, etc in there so they are out of sight at a car show. The downside is it hinges from the front so its not really possible to reach back in there to grope for something while driving (a bad idea anyway).
