  • What does Climatizer set up look like in 53 Commander

OK, I am trying to learn as much about this car as I can. You guys have been great. I have yet another question. I have the manuals to show what the climatizer is but I am unsure what the system looks like all installed. I think I am missing pieces. Does anyone have pictures they can share of the engine compartment and cab with the set up? What am I missing?[IMG

The first thing you need to do, is lift that bottom cushion out of the Front seat so you can see what you have.

The larger brass fitting is the on/off valve for hot water flow. The heater core is under the front passenger seat. An electric fan under the right front [passenger] fender directs air through a 4" flex tube. The valve is operated through a metal rod under the dash.
The small brass fittings and the electric motor is the "Climatizer".
Flexible tubes direct hot air up to the windshield for defrost.
The tubes get crispy and fall apart, are available from Studebaker Vendors or a well equipt parts store.
The valve is prone to leaking all over your carpet. There is a rubber seat inside, it is available, easily replaced to prevent that.

      Copper fittings NOT brass. Sorry.

I do seem to be repeating myself. I am trying to figure this out as quickly as I can. Sorry about the repeats.

The two 1/2" hoses in to the heater valve have a "T" in each hose to feed the 3/8" hoses to the defrost heater coil. They are 1/2" - 3/8" "T" available from most vendors.

C and K models to '62 and all Models prior to 1959, use 5/8 Inch Heater Hoses and 3/8 Inch for the Defroster.

And, if you want to get really picky, heater hoses should be black. As far as I know, no Studebakers left the factory with red heater hoses.
