  • Transmission / Overdrive: newby here on transmission swap

will a standard 2r5 4 speed manual transmission just bolt up without modification on a 1949 2r5 3 speed 1/2 ton truck?

You are much better off with a three speed with overdrive. Most of the truck four speeds are compound low (granny gear) and 4th gear is straight through.

A three speed with an overdrive will allow better road speed.

The three-speed/OD IS the more desirable option but, that still doesn't answer the question.
