  • LOL compare to what Studebaker layed out to bring the Avanti to market!

Automakers consume cash to pay for assembly line equipment, including metal dies and plastic molds, as well as testing to meet safety and emissions standards. A typical new car can cost $1 billion or more to engineer and bring to market.

The above from an article concerning the Tesla vehicle.

As to the cost of bringing the Avanti to market, over the years I have read many figures, and back in the day The Wall Street Journal claimed that Studebaker Corp. lost about twenty million dollars on the Avanti.

Maybe Andy Beckman has the answer?

I believe it cost GM ten times that amount to bring Saturn to market; adjusted for inflation.
