I'm trying to reassemble the front control arms on my '53 Commander. I'm having some trouble with the pins and the lower control arms. I have searched and read old threads, read the blogs, and poured over the service manual. I have new grease seals from SI and have the correct J-2044 spreader. When I thread on the caps the front one will tighten against the seal to the point of crushing it and the back one will tighten against the seal without distorting it at all. I have attempted many times to start on different threads but always end up with the same result. I'm not sure exactly how tight against the seals is correct. The drivers side is together and looks pretty good although the seals have dry rotted and need to be replaced. My Dad put that side together and said it was easy although he's not available to help me now. I will admit that king pin front ends are not exactly my strong point so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
