  • Steering: king pins

How much play should there be in the king pin bushings on a 62 hawk? All parts have been sand blasted and cleaned and by just sliding the king pin into the spindle, not bolted tight and no grease I can just feel a very slight movement on the bushings. This is with or without the upper bearing in place. Think I should replace the bushings and the upper bearing ? I guess I would never have a better time but trying to stay some what in the budget.

I get the complete rebuild bushing/bearing/shim kit @ $105 from SI with the bushings and bearings individually at $14 - 20. I'd replace them now, but before you do, mike the spindle. If it's under spec, then that's a problem.

I don't remember much if any play when I rebuilt them but I seem to recall that it was a fairly tight fit, as in needed lube to feel safe pushing the spindle into the newly bushed assembly.
