  • Michelin's new "tires" (slightly OT)

Got these pix from a lifelong friend of mine in Missouri

Radical new tire design by Michelin. The next generation of tires. They had a pair at the Philadelphia car show.

These tires are airless and are scheduled to be out on the market very soon.

The bad news for law enforcement is that spike strips will not work on these tires.

This is what great R&D will do, and just think of the impact on existing technology:

    A. no more air valves...
    B. no more air compressors at gas stations...

    C. no more repair kits...
    D. no more flats...
    SCAN DOWN &SEE.

These are actual pictures taken in the South Carolina plant of Michelin.

Then I remember where I'd seen SIMILAR wheels....

    :-)

I wonder how much testing they have done in the snow.

Half that thing fills up with snow and it would dismember the car...

Saw those on Modern Marvels. They can be retreaded and will cut way back on the junk tire disposal business. Paint the flexable spokes and they appear as whitewalls in motion. Won't work on trailer queens I suppose.

I wonder about the noise level. At road speed, I would expect that the open construction would sound like a siren.
