Now that the US open is over I was checking the bulbs ib the Hawk dash, they tend to fall out, and when I started the engine afterwards the Temp gauge was fine for a few minutes and then went all the way over to 240. I looked at the gauge and the two push on wires are there, one from the engine and one to the accessory side on the ignition switch. What the heck is going on? Could I have lost a ground wire or what?

If the gauge goes to hot it likely would indicate something in the wiring is grounding where it should not.

Thanks Frank, any idea where that ground might be?

If the wire from the gauge to the sending unit located on the rear of the left side head is grounded the off scale reading will result.

A more common problem is the loss of ground from the gauge case. The gauge needs a direct electrical contact to the instrument case. Try tightening the gauge hold down nuts.
