  • Somebody, anybody please tell me the fate of Avanti Engine RS-1581

Was it blown up and discarded?
Was it swapped into another vehicle?
Is it sitting in a creek somewhere?
    Did it go to Australia?

It was probably last seen in Virginia well over a decade or two ago...

It slung a rod through the side and that one guy put a piece of glass over it and made it into a coffee table.

If having the original numbered block is important to you, just restamp the one you have. Nobody else will care.

Look at the Studebaker swap page.
I have N.O.S original full flow blocks for sale.

I scrapped 4 engines last week and could not begin to tell you the serial number on any of them.

That is the absolute truth. It's not important to Stude guys like it is to GM people!

The NCRS (National Corvette Restorers Society) will attest to that! Even worse are the Mopar guys...they're lunatics on the matter of originality.

The last Chrysler product National Meet where I had a car judged, I won an award and only had one point taken off for authenticity - for the thin piece of wood under the Mopar battery that I put in before going to the meet so that the car would have a Mopar battery.

                    Why the wood?

It was MO-hogany, which was PAR for Chrysler products.

I hope Ed locates that particular engine for his car. Its obviously what HE wants, and doesn't feel the car is 'complete' without it.

Good question. I bought the car from the original owner's family with low miles and excellent condition. It had that piece of wood under the battery when I bought the car. I just left it there over the years that I owned the car. It may have been there for insulation (heat/noise) or to keep any acid off the battery tray. The original owner was a fanatic. I did not have to do much to the car to bring it up to show condition, including the chassis.
