  • Looking for a CHAMP

    Hello,

I will go straight to the point. I am looking for a 1960?-1964 Champ truck with:

    - Automatic transmission
    - V-8 or 6 cylinder
    - Preferably a 1/2 ton short box with the fenders
    - Must be in good running order (derivable now)
    - Does not need to look good, but able to be fixed up
    - West coast located preferred
    - Price range $3500 or less

Please let me know. This is simply a request for those that would be interested.

What makes this request so hard to fill is the Automatic Trans. There were No 6 Cyl. Trucks with Auto. and extremely few V8's with Automatic. I am sure you must have a really important reason like a health issue, not just a preference so I hope you find one.

I have actually seen more '56 to '59 "C" Cabs with Automatic, than Champ "T" Cabs even though they are Newer.

Probably your best shot is to build one from a 3 Speed Column shift or 4 Speed.

In the 1960's nobody wanted a Truck with an Automatic, hence the low sales.

The narrow boxes were few in '62 and none in '63-'64.

I have a 60 Champ 1/2 ton with 259 and automatic that I'm getting ready to sell. Its in Minnesota and is slightly north of your price range.

There are some 10 year old picture of it here> http://forum.studebakerdriversclub.c...043#post911043

          Rich,

They did make some Champs with automatics; not to mention Zip Vans were all automatics. Kevin owns one of the few surviving 6-cylinder Champs with an automatic. His is a '62.
