Evidently the North Carolina Chapter's annual Tri-State Meet will be moved up to August to avoid a conflict with the International Meet this year. No exact date set yet.

Thanks to the cooperation of the North Carolina Group of great Stude folks there will be no conflict with the greatest International Studebaker Meet ever held. We are expecting approximately 945 Concourse field cars between show and judged along with others that will be driven. If this happens it will be the largest gathering of all Studebakers ever held as was Gettysburg in 1980. Anybody remember that one? If you do come to this one as it will be even better. It just took us 28 years to get around to planning another one so it could be bigger and better.

See you in the future as I write about our past

This is a good time to once again remind folks to explore the SDC website beyond this forum. For example:

Basic info on upcoming annual SDC International Meets is here:
http://www.studebakerdriversclub.com/ev_international.asp
Of course, complete info on the next SDC IM is always at www.sdcmeet.com.

Zone Meet info starts here:
http://www.studebakerdriversclub.com/ev_zonemeets.asp

Start here to find Local SDC Chapter events:
http://www.studebakerdriversclub.com/ev_localevents.asp

Not all SDC Zones currently show a 2008 meet either because there may not be one scheduled or no one has bothered to send me the information to post (there's a form at the bottom of each of the events pages provided to make this task easy). Same for local chapter events and chapter listings (http://www.studebakerdriversclub.com/localchapters.asp).

Let me also extend an invitation to everyone in the Upper Mississippi Valley Zone (and beyond) to join us next June in Studebaker, Minnesota (I'm not kidding)!

One problem trying to rely on the SDC webpage is that many zones do not have a 2008 date posted yet. Of the two I looked at one is the 2006 zone meet and the other is the 2007 zone meet (already long past.)

I know this is not the responsibility of the website or the WebMaster. It is that many chapters/zones do not adequately post their events.

Good point. For the record, no 2008 Atlantic Zone Meet has been scheduled yet. Since the International Meet will held in our zone next year, no chapter has expressed an interest in sponsoring a zone meet.

Just a suggestion................:):):)

as this forum has gained members by the day it would sure help folks if there was a forum or calander that showed SDC sanctioned state or zone meets.

Each year I look for car shows I want to attend in Indiana, here is a couple examples of what could be done on a National club level.

http://www.carshownews.com/national/IN.htm

http://www.oldcarsonly.com/page/page/187285.htm

either format would allow clubs and members plan a season of touring and showing our cars.

It is an addiction!

It should be noted, many members of the Forum are not members of SDC.
Non-SDC members should know, The Studebaker Drivers Club maintains an insurance policy that covers incidents that occur at sanctioned SDC meets. Non-members are not covered. For $19.95, the GREATEST club magazine in the world is not the only benefit SDC members receive.:D

Yes, there is no Atlantic Zone Meet scheduled for 2008, HOWEVER, there will be an Atlantic Zone Meet in 2009. The Central Virginia Chapter and the Greater Virginia Chapter have joined forces to hold a Zone Meet for the first time. The Meet will be held in Harrisonburg, VA on June 19-21, 2009. The Co-Chairmen of the meet will be Dale Early, President of the Greater Virigia Chapter, and Randy Nesselrodt, a member of Greater Virginia. Our own Leonard Shepherd is President of the Central Virginia Chapter and is co-chairing one of the committees.

The host hotel will be the Holiday Inn at the intersection of I-81 and US-33 near the campus of James Madison University. The chapters are working hard to make this a great Zone Meet. Please put us on your 2009 calendar. Details and registrations will be available soon.
You may contact me for early information at M16-52@comcast.net. Thank you for supporting us.

There is no automatic mechanism by which meets get posted on the Web site -- somebody's gotta manually enter the data. For meets sponsored by chapters, it'll normally be a chapter officer. For regional or zone meets, it's normally the Zone Coordinator who is responsible for posting the data. None of these folks get paid anything for their labors, and some do not think of the Web site as the source of meet info. As a result, they send the meet info to Larry Swanson for posting in Turning Wheels and consider their job done.

If anyone notices that a meet notice is missing from this Web site but is included in TW, they should alert the Zone Coordinator for that zone.

Following up on what Skip has said...

For this website I receive event notices in two ways:

1. Through the online form at the bottom of each event page, which also automatically goes to Larry Swanson for posting in TW. This is the fastest and easiest way for chapters to communicate their events online and ensure they get listed (with more info than can be reasonably allocated in TW).

2. Larry sends me an events update report almost monthly that he compiles from several sources, including:

(a) chapter newsletters he receives and culls out the events himself, and;
(b) chapters and others send emails/letters/phone calls to him and he puts the info on his list (with the normal turnaround time required between receipt and appearance in TW).

The event listings are manually posted so they will be consistent in the familiar TW What's Happening format. Typically, online event listings are posted within 48 hours of receipt. The update lists I get from Larry might take a few days to all get online, depending on the length of the list.

If there are chapter/zone events that are in TW but not on the website, that indicates it fell through a crack...please use the online form and send them in because we do want the website events to be as current and complete as possible!

I'll do a JP challenge and take bet's now that the number won't be anywhere near 945 Stude's at Lancaster....
(and I am saying that in a humorous, anecdotal, challenging kind of way)...

PS: Tell the host chapter to scrounge up the rest of the motel rooms needed for that many people!

Jeff, apparently you were not around in 1980 nor have a handle on room reservations for the meet. I'll buy you dinner on Saturday if we miss the number mentioned above but you have to be present to earn it. Also if you check Stude demographics more were sold in PA than in any other state and many still exist today. Trust me they will come out of the woodwork for this one just as they did in 1980. Also more SDC, ASC and AOAI members live within a dyas drive of Lancaster than do those who live within the same distance of SB. As for the room situation we urged your national meet committee to book more rooms so yell at them. Again we we will make the numbers or be very close. Where will you be in Lancaster or a no show?
