50 years ago I was 16 years old. My Dad gave me a 48 Champion Convertible. I drove it for a couple of years and sold it.One of my biggest regrets.
Yesterday I bought myself a 49. I see long project ahead. 1/2 a century beween the two cars.

Looks like a clean 49. Even cleaner when you think convert. Should be a easy, fast project.

Good for you! That's a nice looking car. It'll look even better with that big cowboy hat sticking out of the top of it!

Dean.

Dean.It takes a LOT of talent to wear a cowboy hat in a convertible.

I remember when we'd take the '71 Eldorado convertible out when I was a kid. Never once lost the hat!

George and I dug out a really nice set of trunk hinges for you today.. I'll keep an eye out for any other parts. I'm excited about this one.

Looks like fun. My oldest Grandson was interested in the old cars a little. Now he is 17. I wish I could get him to work with me. My 8 yr old has no interest, and my 5 year old can't work and keep his hands clean. My newest is 5 months, and all four of the girls are NOT interested. You are lucky. Enjoy and good luck.

Awesome, my good friend. Hope you have as much fun building it as you will driving it. And vice-versa:)

"Gonna need full floor pan and both front fenders. But already had 1 parts car,and have located another 48."

You probably know this, but for the benefit of others ;), the rear frame area is different between 48 and 49. The trunk pan is also different, and not just the spare tire well.

That is going to be a beauty. It's good that you have the enthusiastic help of your grandsons. My eight-year-old grandson and my four-year-old granddaughter are both Studebaker lovers. There's nothing like it.

The rear of the frame is different between 48 and 49. I had a trunk pan from a 51 and tried in my 48 and it wouldn't fit to small.

Classic Ent. doesn't list a trunk pan for 47-48. C2C lists the same part for 47-52. Will it work?

Dunno, but pay attention to whether the spare tire is a well or not.
Made the mistake of spending a day pulling a gas tank out of one of Don Gay's late 40's parts Commanders for a friend, only to find out
that, due to an up-right spare tire well in the parts car, that the tank would not fit the friend's '47 Commander.

The 49 has a well. The 48 does not.I thought that was the only difference.I had planned to use a 48 trunk floor and eliminate the well. Will it work?

It's only metal. And I know you have a welder and a torch...

Got a Good running engine for the convertible today.Well,I've had it for several years but had forgotten about it. A local man had taken the body off a 49 pick-up and put it on something else so I bought the full chassis. We had turned an old boat over on it. Today Josh an I moved the boat, started the engine and let it run awhile. I think it will do fine

Making a little progress on the Convertible today. Not doing a LOT of body work right now, Just putting on a cover coat of rust preventive paint to keep it from getting any worse.

After cutting off and replacing the 1/4 panels on Josh's Dodge Super Bee, I really appreciate Studebaker's bolt on system.
