1938 assist hand grips

Does anyone know how to remove the cloth Hand Grips in the interior rear of a 1938 Studebaker? I'm trying to redo the upholstery and I need to remove the cloth "Assist Grips" by the rear quarter window. (I have a 4 door commander)

Many years ago I removed some assist straps. As I recall I just had to slip the top part of the fabric out from under the metal hooks, then remove the screw behind it.
